Nemo The Mormon | Faith on Trial

After publicly challenging the Mormon Church, Nemo the Mormon faced a decision that would change his life forever. Filmed over two years, this documentary follows Douglas Stilgoe, better known online as ‘Nemo the Mormon’, and his journey from lifelong Mormon and prominent LDS commentator to excommunication from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The story began with a 2023 episode of LADbible’s Honesty Box, where Nemo answered the public’s questions about Mormon beliefs, the LDS Church, Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, temple practices and controversies surrounding the Church. A third-generation member, Nemo had built an online following by examining Mormon teachings and challenging Church leadership on issues including finances, LGBTQ+ rights, safeguarding and transparency.

Shortly after his LADbible appearance and a subsequent BBC interview, he received a letter summoning him to a Church membership council. Accused of apostasy and repeatedly acting in public opposition to the Church, its doctrine and its leaders, Nemo faced the possibility of losing the faith community he had belonged to his entire life. This documentary follows what happened next.
